Latvian Folk-concerten en liveshows in Riga

Latvian folk music originates from ancient Baltic tribal traditions, centered on the performance of dainas, which are short, rhythmic oral poems reflecting pagan cosmology and agrarian life. The genre is characterized by the distinct, ethereal sound of the kokle, a traditional plucked string instrument, often accompanied by bagpipes, flutes, and hand percussion. While the mood frequently skews toward a reflective, pastoral melancholy, the genre also features vigorous, rhythmic dance songs tied to seasonal solstices and communal rituals. This folk tradition serves as the spiritual foundation for the Baltic singing culture and shares a close semantic and structural lineage with Lithuanian ethnic music and Nordic pastoral styles.
