Crank Wave-events deze maand in Rotterdam

Crank Wave emerged in the late 2010s primarily within the United Kingdom and Ireland, acting as a contemporary revitalisation of post-punk and art-rock traditions. The genre is defined by its reliance on jagged guitar melodies, driving basslines, and a distinct sprechgesang vocal style that delivers cynical, often sociopolitical commentary. Characterised by an urgent and anxious mood, the rhythm typically features motorik beats or syncopated structures that create a sense of mechanical momentum. It maintains a direct semantic lineage from 1970s post-punk and pub rock, blending the abrasive textures of noise rock with the intellectual detachment of avant-garde spoken word performance to create a gritty, modern sound.
