Folk Metal-concerten en liveshows in Rotterdam

Folk metal originated in Europe during the early 1990s, pioneered by bands like Skyclad who fused heavy metal with traditional English folk music. The genre is uniquely characterized by the integration of folk instrumentation, such as fiddles, flutes, and bagpipes, alongside the distorted guitars and aggressive percussion typical of heavy metal. Its rhythms frequently incorporate traditional dance structures like polkas or jigs, resulting in a moderate to fast tempo that balances mosh-pit intensity with rustic energy. The mood typically oscillates between epic mythological storytelling and jovial, tavern-inspired anthems, serving as a cultural bridge that links ancient heritage with modern extreme music aesthetics.
