Horror Punk-events in Rotterdam

Horror punk emerged in the late 1970s, pioneered by the Misfits, blending the aggressive energy of punk rock with the macabre aesthetics of horror cinema and science fiction. The genre typically features distorted electric guitars, driving basslines, and fast-paced drumming, frequently incorporating melodic vocal hooks heavily influenced by doo-wop and 1950s rockabilly. While its sonic foundation is rooted in hardcore punk, it shares a significant semantic relationship with gothic rock and psychobilly through its theatrical preoccupation with morbid themes and campy narratives. This high-energy style maintains a dark yet often celebratory mood, characterized by a raw production quality that emphasizes its rebellious roots within the broader alternative music landscape.
