Karadeniz Folk-concerten en liveshows in Rotterdam

Originating from the Black Sea region of Turkey, Karadeniz folk is a vibrant musical tradition characterized by its unique instrumentation and high-energy rhythmic structures. Central to the sound are the kemençe, a three-stringed bowed fiddle, and the tulum, a regional bagpipe, which create a distinctive, piercing timbre. The genre is renowned for its use of irregular time signatures, such as 7/8 and 5/8, often accompanying the fast-paced, vigorous Horon dance. Emotionally, it spans a wide spectrum, from melancholic laments about the sea and migration to euphoric, communal celebrations. While sharing roots with broader Turkish folk traditions, its proximity to Caucasian and Balkan music gives it a sharp, energetic profile that remains culturally distinct.
