Neo R&B-events in Rotterdam

Neo R&B, widely known as Alternative R&B, emerged in the late 2000s as a progressive evolution that blends traditional soul sensibilities with avant-garde electronic, rock, and hip-hop influences. The genre typically utilizes atmospheric synthesizers, heavy reverb, and minimalist percussion, creating a spacious, often lo-fi soundscape that prioritizes mood over standard pop structures. Tempos are generally mid-to-slow, emphasizing syncopated rhythms and emotive, sometimes distorted vocal delivery to convey introspective and melancholic themes. Semantically, it sits between contemporary R&B and indie electronic music, representing a shift toward experimental production and darker, more complex lyrical content that departs from mainstream radio conventions.
