Permanent Wave-events in Rotterdam

Permanent wave is a modern genre classification, largely popularized by streaming algorithms, that encompasses the evolution of 1980s new wave and post-punk into contemporary alternative rock. It is characterized by a reliance on atmospheric synthesizers, melodic guitar hooks drenched in chorus or reverb, and clean, driving percussion that emphasizes a polished production style. The music often evokes a sense of nostalgic yearning and introspective melancholy, while maintaining a moderate tempo and high melodic accessibility that appeals to mainstream indie audiences. Semantically, the genre serves as a stylistic bridge connecting the experimental synth-pop of the past with the radio-friendly indie-pop sensibilities of the present day.
