Sholawat-events deze maand in Rotterdam

Sholawat is a genre of Islamic devotional music centered on the recitation of prayers and praises for the Prophet Muhammad, deeply rooted in Sufi traditions and Southeast Asian culture. Traditionally, it features a call-and-response vocal structure accompanied by frame drums like the rebana, though modern iterations often incorporate synthesizers and orchestral arrangements. The rhythm is generally steady and repetitive, creating a meditative yet celebratory atmosphere that bridges the gap between liturgical chant and contemporary folk music. Semantically, it is closely related to Nasheed, but distinguishes itself through its specific focus on salutations rather than broader moral narratives, maintaining a mood of profound spiritual reverence.
