Synth Punk-events in Rotterdam

Synth punk emerged in the late 1970s as a volatile fusion of punk rock's DIY ethos and the burgeoning accessibility of electronic synthesizers and drum machines. Characterized by aggressive, distorted oscillators and rapid-fire mechanical rhythms, the genre maintains the high-velocity energy of traditional punk while replacing or augmenting guitars with primitive electronic textures. The mood is typically nervous, jittery, and confrontational, often reflecting themes of urban alienation and technological anxiety through frantic tempos and shouted vocals. Serving as a critical bridge between early new wave and the industrial music of the 1980s, synth punk prioritizes raw sonic impact over polished production, remaining a seminal influence on modern electro-punk and electronic body music.
