Turbo Folk-concerten en liveshows in Rotterdam

Turbo-folk emerged in the Western Balkans during the late 1980s as a high-energy fusion of traditional Serbian folk music with contemporary electronic, pop, and dance-rock influences. It is characterized by the prominent use of the accordion and clarinet alongside heavy synthesizers, programmed drum beats, and distorted electric guitars. The genre typically features fast tempos and driving rhythms designed for nightclubs, often conveying a hedonistic or kitsch mood through lyrics focused on romance and material wealth. As a cultural successor to newly composed folk music, it represents a bridge between rural traditions and globalized urban pop production, maintaining a dominant presence across Southeastern Europe.
