Jazz-events deze week in San Francisco

Emerging from New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century, Jazz is a sophisticated genre rooted in African American musical traditions like blues and ragtime. It is characterized by its reliance on improvisation, complex swing rhythms, and distinctive harmonic structures that often utilize blue notes and polyrhythms. Standard instrumentation typically includes brass, woodwinds, piano, and double bass, though the genre spans from intimate trios to expansive big bands. While its mood varies from somber introspection to high-energy exuberance, Jazz serves as a critical bridge between folk traditions and modern art music, profoundly influencing nearly every major Western contemporary style from rock to hip-hop.
