West Coast Rap-events deze maand in San Francisco

West Coast rap emerged from California in the late 1970s and 1980s, evolving from early electro-hop into a distinct regional sound characterized by deep basslines and melodic synthesizers. The genre's instrumentation frequently utilizes heavy Roland TR-808 percussion paired with soulful P-Funk samples and high-pitched Moog leads, creating a signature laid-back yet menacing atmosphere. Rhythms are typically mid-tempo and groove-heavy, reflecting a "behind the beat" delivery that distinguishes it from the faster, more aggressive styles of East Coast boom-bap. As a pivotal branch of hip-hop, it popularized the G-funk sub-genre and transitioned from underground gangsta rap to a dominant force in mainstream global music culture.
