Zydeco-events deze maand in San Francisco

Zydeco is a high-energy folk music genre that emerged in Southwest Louisiana during the early 20th century among French Creole-speaking populations. It characteristically blends elements of blues, soul, and rhythm and blues with indigenous Creole traditions, distinguished by its driving, syncopated rhythms and the prominent use of the accordion and the frottoir, or corrugated metal washboard. Typically performed at a fast tempo with a double-clutch beat, the music fosters a festive, celebratory mood designed for social dancing in rural zydeco breaks. While sharing linguistic roots with Cajun music, zydeco is defined by its heavier emphasis on percussive blues influences and modern electric instrumentation, positioning it as a foundational pillar of Gulf Coast cultural heritage.
