Polish Jazz-events deze maand in Thessaloniki

Polish jazz traces its roots to the post-World War II era, gaining significant momentum during the cultural "thaw" of 1956 which allowed Western influences to permeate the Iron Curtain. Characterized by a distinctive "Slavic soul," it blends traditional American bebop and cool jazz foundations with elements of Polish folk music and the lyrical sensibilities of Romantic-era classical composers like Chopin. Typical instrumentation includes the standard jazz quintet or trio, often emphasizing atmospheric piano work and expressive saxophone melodies. This genre is semantically linked to European avant-garde and hard bop, yet it maintains a unique identity through its often melancholic mood, complex harmonic structures, and a philosophical, cinematic approach to improvisation.
