Salsa-events deze maand in Utrecht

Salsa originated in the 1960s New York City melting pot, effectively synthesizing Cuban Son Montuno and Mambo with diverse Puerto Rican rhythmic traditions. The genre is structurally defined by the foundational clave pattern and a dense percussion section including congas, timbales, and bongos, often punctuated by aggressive, melodic brass arrangements. Musically, it features a highly syncopated, high-energy tempo that facilitates complex partner dancing and maintains a consistently uplifting, festive mood. It maintains a close semantic relationship with Latin Jazz and Boogaloo, serving as a broad commercial umbrella term for various Afro-Caribbean styles while emphasizing intense rhythmic interplay and instrumental improvisation within a structured vocal format.
