Cool Jazz-events dit weekend in Zurich

Emerging in the late 1940s as a deliberate reaction to the frenetic complexity of bebop, cool jazz emphasizes understated lyricism, relaxed tempos, and a cerebral approach to improvisation. This genre often features unconventional instrumentation, such as French horns, tubas, and flutes, alongside traditional rhythm sections, resulting in a light and airy timbre. Primarily associated with the West Coast movement and key figures like Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck, it prioritizes melodic clarity and formal arrangement over aggressive virtuosity. The mood is typically detached, sophisticated, and tranquil, serving as a pivotal bridge between the bebop era and the subsequent development of modal jazz and third stream styles.
