Finnish Folk-concerten en liveshows in Zurich

Finnish folk music originates from ancient Baltic-Finnic oral traditions, most notably the runic singing or runonlaulu documented in the Kalevala epic. The genre primarily features the kantele, a plucked zither, alongside the jouhikko, accordion, and fiddle, creating a soundscape that balances archaic modal melodies with later Nordic dance forms like the polska. Rhythmically, it oscillates between the hypnotic, irregular meters of ancient chants and the structured, mid-tempo pulses of folk dances, evoking a mood that is characteristically melancholic yet deeply communal. As a distinct branch of Nordic folk, it maintains a unique linguistic and melodic identity that distinguishes it from Scandinavian neighbors while influencing contemporary world music and neo-folk scenes.
