Footwork-events deze week in Zurich

Emerging from Chicago's underground dance scenes in the late 1990s, footwork evolved from ghetto house and juke into a distinct, high-energy genre defined by its frenetic 160 BPM tempo. The sound is characterized by complex, syncopated drum patterns—often utilizing Roland TR-808 sub-bass—and repetitive, rhythmic vocal chops that create a disorienting yet hypnotic atmosphere for competitive battle dancing. While rhythmically aggressive and experimental, it maintains a strong relationship with street culture, serving as a sonic framework for intricate, rapid-fire choreography. Its structural complexity and erratic triplets differentiate it from traditional house music, bridging the gap between urban dance culture and modern electronic avant-garde production.
