French Folk-events dit weekend in Zurich

French folk music originates from diverse regional traditions across France, most notably in Brittany, Auvergne, and Corsica, blending medieval legacies with rural social customs. Typical instrumentation features the chromatic accordion, hurdy-gurdy, and various regional bagpipes alongside the fiddle and acoustic guitar. The music often centers on rhythmic dance forms like the bourrée or waltz, characterized by triple-meter pulses and moderate tempos that range from contemplative to celebratory. While maintaining a nostalgic and pastoral mood, the genre is semantically linked to broader European folk and Celtic traditions, yet it remains distinct through its unique modal melodies and emphasis on communal dance-driven arrangements.
