Irish Folk-events deze maand in Zurich

Irish folk is a multifaceted traditional music genre deeply rooted in the Gaelic oral traditions and historical ballads of Ireland, having evolved significantly through the 18th and 19th centuries. Typical instrumentation features acoustic instruments such as the fiddle, uilleann pipes, tin whistle, and bodhrán, often accompanied by acoustic guitar or tenor banjo. Rhythms are frequently defined by distinct dance forms like jigs and reels, characterized by driving, steady pulses or poignant, slow-air melodies. The genre's mood spans from deeply melancholic laments to high-energy, communal celebrations, serving as a primary cultural foundation for contemporary Celtic music, American bluegrass, and the broader international folk revival movements.
