Kurdish Folk-events vanavond in Zurich

Kurdish folk music originates from the ancient mountainous regions of Kurdistan, serving as a vital oral tradition for preserving cultural identity and historical narratives across generations. The genre is characterized by the prominent use of indigenous instruments like the tembur, daf, and zurna, which often accompany deeply emotive, melismatic vocal performances. Its rhythmic structure frequently features complex, asymmetrical time signatures and high-impact, driving tempos perfectly suited for communal circle dances, known collectively as Govend. This music seamlessly shifts between the mournful, storytelling laments of the Dengbêjî and exuberant, high-energy celebratory pieces, maintaining a raw and organic acoustic sound that distinctly separates it from neighboring Middle Eastern folk traditions.
