Mariachi-events in Zurich

Originating in the 18th century within the Western Mexican state of Jalisco, mariachi is a quintessential ensemble-based genre that evolved from rural folk traditions into a national symbol of Mexican identity. The typical instrumentation features a distinctive blend of violins, trumpets, and specific Mexican guitars including the high-pitched vihuela and the deep-toned guitarrón. Its rhythmic foundation often utilizes complex alternating meters such as 3/4 and 6/8, encompassing styles like the son jalisciense, ranchera, and bolero. The mood ranges from festive and exuberant to deeply melancholic, characterized by powerful vocal performances that convey profound emotional narratives, firmly bridging the gap between traditional folk heritage and modern popular entertainment.
