Violin-events in Zurich

The violin genre traces its lineage to 16th-century Italy, evolving from earlier bowed instruments like the lira da braccio to become the cornerstone of Western classical music. Primarily centered on the four-stringed soprano instrument, performances range from intimate solo sonatas and concertos accompanied by full orchestras to chamber music settings. Rhythmic structures vary immensely, encompassing both the disciplined precision of baroque movements and the expressive, fluid rubato of the Romantic era. While often associated with a sophisticated and emotionally complex mood, the genre maintains a strong semantic bridge to folk fiddling, sharing technical foundations while diverging in stylistic execution and formal complexity.
