This has a pretty self-assured tone and guiding sense of fun around its main character. It is trying a little too hard on the emotional journey of the protagonist, there is no room for the viewer to fill in the gaps. The same goes for the comedy, where it is a little too in love with performances and gags that often didn't click for me. But everything here felt pretty close to being great, and the last two minutes are killer.
Really loved moderating the Q&A with filmmaker Melody C. Roscher and producer Saba Zerehi. James Le Gros was so funny in this. I'm so glad he's working with so many young female directors. VAFF #4
It’s interesting because there’s a lot going on in a small amount of time. Some of the comedy is played fairly big, and yet some of the biggest gags are played so quietly. It felt like it made the laughs even louder. Very charming movie. Good performances all around, but Alisha Wainwright is great. It took me a second to realize where I recognized K. Todd Freeman from.
