Some truly gruesome imagery in this one. I’ve unfortunately become a tough scare in my old age from holding the film negative of my psyche up to the sunlight of constant horror every day since the age of 13. But even still I found the image of a woman in an ill fitting old lady rubber mask slowly ice skating toward the camera holding a sickle over her head to activate some part of my lizard brain. It makes sense that we would evolve to be afraid of that image. I can frankly see some advantages. We got some booms in the shot, but I’m not complaining. People riff on booms in shots much more often than it actually happens. A lot of those riffs are just people joking about something they’ve never actually experienced. They know it as a signifier of low quality they’ve inherited from older complainers. It means nothing to them. They’re like comedians wandering around the wreckage of the Tower of Babel, trying out a tight five they don’t even understand. So to actually see a boom mic in the wild is special. It’s like seeing a hummingbird at your feeder. You hold your breath without realizing it.
