An acclaimed, moving documentary.

people well and truly make glasgow
insane experience to view the moment of your political awareness being born in filmalso everybody laughed at a thing I said in the film which feels good xxx
political empowerment cinema that arranges cleverly present images of a peaceful resolution of an immigration dawn raid in Glasgow, building up a dramaturgic tension necessary to make it work, while simultaneously having a couple of cringe decisions in the midst of it (looking at you, Emma Thompson laying under a bus in anti fascist clothing). it's a documentary that squeezes the tears out of the viewer because of the relentless hopefulness it carries in front of it; a strategy that itself is debatable as it could be called cheaply fishing for emotions - the score on here & the audience reaction shows how the concept is extremely successful, to go for the "feelgood" part of activism. that being said, the tendency of toxic positivity in many areas of life is a dangerous development nowadays, but you can scratch the toxic here. as the director put it "my pessimism failed me that day", which is a sweet thing to say & resonates with me thinking about the often desperately dark looking future. even if the film just raised my personal level of hope for our seemingly doomed hereafter by 3-4%, that's already something I guess.
The film documents the 2021 community protest in Glasgow where residents successfully blocked a Home Office dawn raid to prevent the deportation of their neighbors.
Felipe Bustos Sierra directed the documentary, which premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
