Hard to imagine this won't be way up on my list at the end of the year. A doc made for me--aka quietly expansive, deceptively complex, and makes you believe some kind of god really does exist in the mountains and in rice. Reminds me in particular of Echigo Okumiomote which I peeped last year in its subtly twisty playing with the inherent fiction of the documentary and exploration of ritual, tradition, and nature in the modern world. Gorgeous, owns bones, everything you could want tbh; Baxcore to the nines(watched at Sendai Forum w/ director talk at the end)
