so Gael García Bernal makes a film where an omnipotent millionaire comic character becomes his father figure, he himself becomes Kafka as company manager having to lay off folks while being a true Cuban revolutionary at heart, and - most interestingly - his wife has kind of a lesbian romance with a hot Brazilian actress right in front of his eyes. there's a triangulation situation that is entered by a gay Ricky Martin at some point, just popping up for one quick, unnecessary scene. all of this 'cucky' & neat. Bernal's kind-of-satire is mostly an entertaining ride, well shot, with a swifty tone. it's having the classic 'actor-turned-to-auteur' illness though: it would have needed quite some trimming & darlings thrown out. this film doesn't warrant 2 hours, but as a 90-minute salsa dance this could have been really good. next time someone might have the courage to step up & tell GGB - I mean look at that cutie here, he's such an adorable cuckold, isn't he?! *winky smiley*/// Venezia 83 ///
