Over Thanksgiving weekend, all but five students in an old Manhattan building that's now a college dormitory leave for home: staying on one floor are roommates Lauren, Melina, and Alison, plus her boyfriend Diego and Grant, a loner in a room down the hall. Lauren's been seeing things in her bathroom: a silent child of about six. Diego has written a paper on parapsychology, so he holds a séance with the disbelieving co-eds. Something goes awry, because bad things start to happen and the students' only defender is an aging campus cop named Syd. What's the silent ghostly girl's secret, and can Alison discover what's going on before it's too late?

I recently watched Seance (2005) on Tubi. The storyline follows a group of college roommates who decide to stay in their dorm over Thanksgiving break. When they suspect a little girl may be haunting the building, they hold a séance in hopes of freeing her spirit—but instead of releasing the ghost, they may have invited something else in, something far more deadly. This picture is written and directed by Mark L. Smith, in his lone directorial effort, and stars Bridget Shergalis (All About Steve), Kandis Fay (I Am Not a Hipster), Brandon Smith (Get on Up), and Alex Revan (The Other Side). The film feels like a WB special in terms of cast, cinematography, character interactions, storyline, and overall cheese factor. It also features one of the worst security guards ever put on screen. The horror sound effects outshine the practical effects, and the kills rely on cutaways followed by a corpse—assuming the corpse is even found. The unexpected highlight of the movie is how they use a parrot 🦜.In conclusion, Seance is a mediocre-to-poor entry in the horror genre. I’d score it a 4/10 and recommend skipping it.
I really wanted to like Séance. It has an almost okay premise. College kids stuck in a dorm during Thanksgiving break do a seance and bodies start piling up. On paper, that is kind of a cool idea. Then there is the execution on film or memory card or however this was recorded. Everything seems to fall apart within the first 10 minutes and it never gets better. Then when the killer is revealed, it is laugh-worthy. Now, I can get behind a supernatural slasher but once again it has to work. The casting has a lot on its back and it broke with a feather. Adrian Paul, while oddly cast, does what he can to make this work.
