There's a creepy swamp mansion, screeching cat jump scare, the reading of a family will, creaky wooden floors, a valuable missing necklace, an escaped maniac killer at large, hidden passageways, and naturally...murder! I love Louisiana bayou set spooky old dark house murder mystery stories, so this comedy tinged remake of the 1927 film, while being very much pulp junk food, was right up my alley on a humid, soupy aired night.

The perfect little whodunit for a rainy afternoon, spiced with horror elements and two ravishing leads playing the detective who are stranded in a spooky house for the night with a couple of other people and a killer lurking around...Sharing a striking resemblance with William Castle's House on Haunted Hill (1959) on a technical level, but more like Hitchock's The Lady Vanishes (1938) in terms of atmosphere, The Cat and the Canary flawlessly balances these two extremes and provides audiences far and wide with a delightful mystery right out of an Agatha Christie novel. One of YouTube's underrated gems.
