Fjodor Dostojevski en zijn vrouw Anna reizen voor hun huwelijksreis naar Europa en verblijven uiteindelijk in een kuuroord in Zwitserland, om na vier jaar terug te keren naar Rusland. anna had the patience OF A SAINT
THE IDIOT(S) features two whacky, committed performances from Johnny Flynn and Aimee Lou Wood, who completely throw themselves into the idiosyncratic world Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert have created, one filled with melodramatic crashouts, anachronistic music, and crude irreverence. The film itself is a bit all over the place, with a thin, repetitive story and a tone that owes a great deal to Tony McNamara without ever reaching the same heights of comedy or tragedy. Still, for all its unevenness, I have to admit the bittersweet ending got me a little choked up. “Say after me, it’s no better to be safe than sorry.”
