O filme escolhido foi Não Me Abandone Jamais. DO JOÃO GUILHERME! DO JOÃO GUILHERME! ENG:🇺🇸The Saci Has Three Legs When It’s My Turn“Why are you going to join the navy if you can be a pirate?”It’s my friends, I know. I can’t believe I gave 4 stars to a film by Virginia’s ex-brother-in-law! My brain still hasn’t processed that this is real, and the worst part: I’m still looking for reasons why I shouldn’t give it 5 stars, because this film was simply incredible.Anyone who follows me here knows very well that my 5 stars are something completely uncommitted to reality. I give maximum ratings to films that can be considered horrible, but that for me are absolute and perfect. After all, my number one rule for rating any film is untouchable: entertainment above all. If the film manages to enchant me, hold me and take me out of this dirty and cruel world, whether for the most absurd or ridiculous reason that exists, for me it has already stamped the passport of perfection.Anyway, I didn’t want to rate this film that way today. As I said, it could easily be a 5-star film for me, because my experience with it was sensational. But I decided to rate it realistically, where I really believe that it is a magnificent 4-star film and worthy of cinema. And I do this out of respect and redemption, because I treated this film as a joke until I watched it.When I saw its announcement, I summarily dismissed it. I thought:“Why the hell is João Guilherme doing in the movies? Here comes another Brazilian piece of shit to pair with the films by Ingrid Guimarães or Tirullipa with Whindersson”.But, my God, how wrong I was! How embarrassing to be wrong and judge like that. I really liked this film a lot.On Sunday we ordered pizza at home and I’m an extremely annoying and paranoid guy, for me, good food absolutely requires a good film. I drive my entire family crazy with this neurosis. The chosen film was Never Let Me Go. It seemed like an interesting melancholic romance, although I was against watching it on Sunday. And I really was right: it’s not a bad film, but I thought it was terrible. Lifeless, soulless; a sad film, but without the essence of true sadness/melancholy, but rather with the essence of boredom and the dispensable. Well, I wasted the climax moment of the dopamine of the food mixed with the visuals that gives that excitement and relaxation to my brain, my cinematic drug.Right after finishing this disappointed film, still with that anger stuck in my throat, I went to watch The Invitation, because I had high expectations. It was an even bigger disappointment. Again: it’s not a bad film overall, but I immensely hated it. Maybe I’ll still write about them in the future, but I decided to prioritize The Internet King. After watching these two bombs, I was still very electric and awake, because I had filled my face with energy drinks all day. So that’s it, right… when it’s my turn, the Saci has three legs. I had already declared the night an absolute failure, and failure for failure, I wanted to put João Guilherme’s film on to put the final nail in the coffin of a bad day. I was going to watch this one alone in the dead of night. But that’s where it is. This time, the Saci really had only two legs, to my extreme happiness. I really can’t believe I’m going to say this, but João Guilherme’s film saved my night. JOÃO GUILHERME’S! It’s really very, very strange to write this; it even seems like a joke, but it’s not.Right from the start I was already involved with the film: a simply incredible beginning, a fascinating, intense theme full of content to show us. And it’s impressive: I didn’t see João Guilherme there at any moment. I saw a fucking great actor. What do you mean?! He was a fucking great actor! May God forgive me, maybe I’m crazy, but I could swear that, while watching this film, I felt a kind of Timothée Chalamet energy in Leonardo’s son. Is this serious? Or worse: maybe the keyboard won’t even allow this to be written… but did I feel Ryan Gosling energy in Virginia’s ex-brother-in-law? I must be going crazy, crazy as a stone.Totally insane. João Guilherme’s acting isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely really good. I say Chalamet because the youthful way and facial expressions mixed with charm in him are very strong; and I say Ryan Gosling because his humor while being serious, that sarcastic face without seeming arrogant, is hugely shown in Daniel, João Guilherme’s character. JOÃO GUILHERME’S! Anyway, my respect for this kid increased drastically today. I didn’t despise him, but even so I didn’t give him the respect he deserved; now I really think he’s a fucking great guy.The plot throws us into the real whirlwind of Daniel Nascimento, a young computer genius who goes from everyday bullying to becoming one of the country’s biggest cyber scammers. The film masterfully portrays the contrast between hacker virtual life and real life. It’s impressive how organic the reproduction of the 2000s was in this film, giving off that simple and wonderful vibe: the TV shows of the time, the noisy modems, the archaic chat rooms and the classic snake game on the old brick cellphone. It’s an absurdly precise nostalgic immersion.I also really liked how the film portrays sexualization in our daily lives, nowadays we have social media throwing you into this world all the time, but back then it was even more bizarre, on a Sunday a bunch of hot girls rubbing their asses against the camera lens, looking for a soap in Gugu’s bathroom. On a Sunday at lunchtime! So recapping: the plot is very interesting and not very clichéd, the acting is good, the setting is incredible. Now, to completely win me over, only one thing is missing: the soul of the film. It’s difficult to explain this aspect of a work, because there is no purely technical explanation. But, as I said, cinema has to be entertainment before anything else, before technical quality, fuck technical quality! The color of the soul and personality of this film caught my attention a lot amid the other colors of its production. It’s no news to anyone here that I admire what is wrong: criminal, illegal, wrong and illicit activities in general. Anyway, who doesn’t admire it, right? It’s no coincidence that films about crimes, serial killers and psychopaths are so successful. But I’m going a little in another direction, within the same segment: I think criminality as it happens in fiction is fucking cool. And the craziest thing about all this is that, simply, “fiction” is an orange word for “reality”, because this crazy stuff is unfortunately real. I wouldn’t have the courage to do half of what these guys do, but it’s crazy to see movie stuff in real life. It’s crazy to know that Daniel Nascimento is a real person and that everything in fiction happens in real life. In fact, last week in my life, my routine was dominated by the activities of the GTA 6 hacker Cyberleek. And speaking of GTA: this is one of the reasons that made me love this film. These guys are GTA in real life! Daniel was just a kid and already had the world in his hands, or rather, in his fingers. Seeing his trajectory in the film, suffering bullying, hanging around with heavy people, growing in crime, driving only fancy cars, fucking a bunch of hot girls, getting drugged up to the limit and spending the biggest dirty money, made me remember the very essence of Grand Theft Auto. I remembered Lester and, for those who are familiar with the tenth art, Watch Dogs, a franchise that was incredible and got lost, but whose hacker soul still exists and shines like never before. This hacker stuff is so ingrained in humanity that it causes admiration for many people. Personally it was never my favorite criminal activity, but my mother’s: she has told me many times that she would love to be a hacker, and I always become incredulous when I hear that from her, it’s simply hilarious! Maybe I incriminated her here.Seeing the federal police and Civil Police in action reminds me of the current moment we are living through on the internet: Buzeira getting locked up for 1 year, Dra. Deolane going to jail, dozens of warrants for famous people for various different federal crimes and millionaire schemes, the house coming down for everyone. Fuck, this is so fucking cool! I don’t want you to think that this is an apology for crime, because I also think their imprisonment is fucking cool. When I say I like it, it’s because I really admire the dynamics of this system a lot: their adrenaline, the risks, the house coming down, the corruption, the twists and the gangster life.Obviously, everything I’m talking about is nothing but fiction in reality, because there are people genuinely getting fucked over by this. How many people didn’t lose their lives with this Tigrinho, BET and everything imaginable bullshit? The casino system is one of society’s greatest addictions, since the world has been the world, whatever the game, and honestly the reason is always the same: escape from reality, always longing for what you don’t have, always wanting wealth, and not just ordinary wealth, but surpassing what we know as being rich.Well… it’s fucking cool. I take pleasure in seeing the grace and disgrace happening like a film. But you have to be crazy to believe in this “honor among thieves ” and noble cause stuff, as I said about Cyberleek… whoever wants to believe it, believes it. The bum has already made more than 1 million reais and disappeared from the map.The gangster lifestyle is interesting to everyone. I keep remembering Boca de 09, who appeared on the internet as an extremely funny and charismatic child figure, and out of nowhere the kid became a gangster:“Hey Felca, the police are here with us Felca, how are you gonna arrest me?!”Crazy as hell, all of this we’re living through. At the end of the film there is a flashback of all the scams that happen on the internet and there is no other word to define our current reality than insanity. The amount of scams people create, the infinity of human creativity for perversity… My grandmother herself fell for one last month; how crazy is that! It’s amazing to see this as fiction, and it’s even crazier to see that fiction is reality itself. But when you realize that this reality is routine, it starts to become frightening, and everything you admire becomes hypocrisy, because you begin to hate and condemn it.There are other caveats of this film that I would also like to bring up. André Ramiro as a corrupt Civil Police officer was sensational! Who was the genius who had the idea of calling Mathias from Tropa de Elite for the film?“Do you think I look like Geppetto? You gonna lie to me, FUCK?!”“What do you have for us there, Static Shock?”Only legendary lines, just like Tropa de Elite. Marcelo Serrado as a crime magnate is also sensational. It gave me a huge desire to get into GTA V Online and run my organized crime businesses: sell some contraband, ship cars and some drugs.I’m not going to say that this film has no flaws. João Guilherme’s own acting sometimes becomes way too exaggerated in this kind of charming paranoid style, and maybe that is a pain in the ass for some. The film is also 70% narrated; I personally like this because of the Tropa de Elite school, but I understand that it’s actually something artistically unadventurous, since all the time the narrator is explaining the obvious to you. Personally I don’t mind, but it makes perfect sense to criticize. And well… Otávio Mesquita at the end, now that is a major flaw! I don’t like this guy one bit.Well, we’ve reached the end, since the GTA trailer I hadn’t made a review with so much passion. I’ve already written a lot and honestly I’m out of ideas to finish this text in a cool way. Thank you for reading, it was very fun to write and watch this film.
