“When in doubt, squish!”Who doesn’t love a nice & goopy “insects attack!” creature feature? You have giant ticks crawling under people’s skin, exploding their faces, and caving open their chests, you have a super dumb script and hilariously wooden acting, you have Seth Green as a dweeby little nerd rocking a double earring, you have Clint Howard being Clint Howard and rocking an even bigger earring (with a snappy little feather!), you have fuckin’ Alfonso Ribiero switching gears from Carlton to a tough guy named “Panic” who wears fingerless gloves and calls people “sucka”, you have an awesome third act with gory body horror, a giant marijuana farm, and an obvious green screen forest fire, and, best of all, you have super gay bad guys—a flamboyant weed farmer and his backwoods ranch hand who calls him “sir”—with the most unsubtle top-bottom relationship ever put to screen. Simple fun for simple folks (like me!).Best of: Creature Features
Yuzna produced 90’s DTV enlarged tick mayhem movie features excellent disgusting goop, nightmare fuel tick effects, a solid cast of moron fodder, and Clint Howard as an infested weed farmer (some really top notch CH moments in this might I add) with an end result that delivers exactly the kind of dtv 90’s wet n goopy always entertaining slop I love watching on a hungover Saturday morning. The new disc looks wonderful and the packaging is top tier… I keep seeing folks complaining in moronic collector groups and proselytizing to me “do we really need Ticks in 4K” and listen… There is no ‘we’ here… I don’t care what you need but I know what I need… and that’s Ticks in 4K!
A group of at-risk youth on a wilderness retreat encounters a swarm of giant, mutated ticks caused by illegal agricultural chemicals dumped in the forest.
Tony Randel directed the 1993 film, an American director known for his work in low-budget horror and science fiction.
Yes, it is a quintessential 1990s creature feature characterized by its reliance on practical effects and gore.
