Interesting hybrid narrative-doc that follows Valentina trying to get out from under a pile up of parking tickets. She works odd jobs, donates blood, harasses the impound lot worker and eventually makes her way to city council meeting to argue against the city of El Paso’s for profit partnership with Omnibase which perpetuates a cycle of poverty. Billing for speeding tickets, impounding cars and charging exorbitant fees for each day the impound fees aren’t paid, revoking licenses for unpaid fees. It’s a near impossible cycle to break once you’re in it. Very unique film. Keyla Monterroso Mejia was very endearing as Valentina. The film feels very authentic to El Paso, but the story feels applicable almost any town. Unique film and film making. Would love to see some behind the scenes of how some of the scenes are set up.
