1982 In Review - September#7Three lovely waitresses contend with a drunken, slovenly chef and mutinous patrons.Waitress is a terribly unfunny comedy that is trying way to hard to be funny and comes off all wrong. I think it’s an early Troma production and you can tell, some of the acting is appalling. It can barely be called a movie; it's more like a collage of randomly connected images and scenes that don't build from each other or move any sort of plot forward.
I hate my life and I want to die. There is something seriously wrong with me for wasting my money and time on this bullshit. But it's like, the Troma style is impossible to really truly hate. It's eclectic and lively and my favorite thing about Troma films is all the stupid shit going on in the background. ADHD bait and pure maximalism. This is an awful juvenile sex comedy for literal idiots but it's enjoyable at the cost of my last brain cell.

One waitress is an aspiring actress, one is an aspiring writer, one is the boss' daughter. Between them, they get up to numerous shenanigans and misadventures.Waitress! is filled with tons of groanworthy humor and ludicrous slapstick, and a handful of opportunities for the women to take off their tops and the men to bare their asses. Some of my favorite scenes involve a drunken Russian chef who, shirtless and belligerent, throws everything into his stew, from smelly shoes to a live chicken that seems to be perfectly content wallowing around in there.Some of the craziest scenes are filled with what seems like a hundred extras and are so crammed with visual background gags that they reminded me of comic artist Bill Elder's gag-filled "chicken fat" Mad magazine panels.There's even a bit of Shakespeare in here.Fans of Benny Hill and The Three Stooges, Gong-Show-level humor, and slapstick and farce in general might quite likely find something to enjoy in Waitress! I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's good, dumb, sleazy fun.
