Garson Kanin was a prominent American screenwriter, director, and playwright who was instrumental in the development of 1940s screwball comedies and was married to the actress and writer Ruth Gordon.
He is recognized for writing influential screenplays including Adam's Rib, Pat and Mike, and The Marrying Kind, as well as authoring the successful play Born Yesterday.
Kanin frequently worked within the major Hollywood studio system of the 1930s and 1940s, with significant output for RKO Radio Pictures.
