Floris Kappeyne Trio
An underground free jazz artist.
The Floris Kappeyne Trio consists of Floris Kappeyne on piano and synthesizer, Tijs Klaassen on bass and Wouter Kühne on drums. They released their debut album Interchange in 2017 with jazz compositions in a traditional jazz style. In 2019, the second album Synesthesia was released with a set of twelve preludes that find themselves within the space of modern classical, jazz, and electronic music, including a piece with a four-piece choir and synthesizer, a piece for jazz piano trio with a classical soprano and two compositions for solo piano. This work functioned as research on the role of improvisation within the boundaries of modern jazz music; in every piece improvisation is implemented in a unique way. This album has been performed by the trio on Dutch and international stages and festivals with an average of 35 performances per year in 2017 till 2019. Interchange (2017) was streamed around 157.500 times on Spotify over the whole world. After the long pause of multiple years, the Trio has come together to record their third album 'Closer' which will be released on 14 April 2023. This album encompasses a new era of the Trio post-covid and coincides with their 10-year anniversary.
