Apichat Pakwan
Apichat Pakwan is a group of musicians from Thailand & The Netherlands. They make what they call Esantronics - a mix of Esan folkmusic (molam) , dub, hiphop & electro. Unique about Apichat Pakwan is their mix of very traditional instruments with innovative live electronics. They play original Esan repertory as well as their own new interpretations and compositions, all on a bass-heavy dub foundation. The group was formed by producer Olivier Schreuder (Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 1980).In 2018 Apichat Pakwan two very gifted young molam-singers join the band, Wimonmat ‘Wiw’ Kangjantha and Anusara ‘Bee’ Deechaichana, with whom they write new songs. Apichat Pakwan released their first 10” vinyl single Angkanang in December 2016 on Animist Records, followed by the second vinyl single E-Ong Muan Sun in 2017. A 9-track EP was presented soon after, receiving excellent reviews and regular airplay on BBC Radio. Apichat Pakwan tours extensively through Asia and Europe with highlights performing at Germany's Fusion Festival in 2019, World Experience Festival in Romania and Amsterdam Roots Festival in the same year. In Thailand they played at Jai Thep Festival, Isan Creative Festival and Khon Kaen Filmfestival, but also in Bangkok clubs like Noma and Jam.Their debut album is released in 2019.
