CONTRANISTAS are an instrumental duo from the notoriously scrappy music city of Bakersfield, California. Robert Morgan (drums/samples) and Dax Dominguez (guitar/bass/loops) have been making music together since early 2017. Deviating from the more popular styles and genres their town is best known for, the two have spent years crafting a "Bakersfield Sound" of their very own. Making use of loops, samples and electronics alongside conventional instruments, their sound is an eclectic mix of angular and driving drums, sinewy effects-heavy guitar lines and textures, and pulsating melodic bass reminiscent of the classic postpunk sound.
