Flore Benguigui & The Sensible Notes
“It’s jazz, but it’s funny” warns Flore Benguigui. On stage, that phrase becomes a statement of intent: here, jazz isn’t about posture or erudition - it’s a joyful, collective playground where happy accidents are always welcome. The goal: to dismantle our preconceptions about a genre too often seen as elitist, and to build bridges between eras. It’s 1930s jazz, yes - but told in the present tense, infused with new sounds and unmistakable joy. With her longtime partners in groove - Pierre-François Maurin (double bass), Charles Tois (piano), and Maxime Mary (drums) - plus a host of spontaneous guest musicians (because improvisation is never far away!), Flore and her merry crew turn every concert into an experience that’s free-spirited, witty, and unexpectedly enlightening. After years singing with the band L'Impératrice, Flore returns to her first love: the jazz she grew up listening to and has never stopped performing - especially during her 11-year residency at the Parisian club Le Baiser Salé, where she’s been mixing 1930s swing with 1970s analog synths. Each concert becomes a laboratory of shared emotion, a space for both listening and connection. Because at heart, what Flore celebrates isn’t so much a style as a spirit — one of joy, movement, and life.
