Origina1Nerd - a band name that makes you wonder at first - why the ‘1’ in the name? The origin comes from the stylistic devices that were often used in computer forums to name an account. This is exactly where the original nerds can be found. In the Origina1Nerd forum, five young musicians have come together to compose, arrange and present original music. The result of this process can be found on the band's second album ‘System Overload’ - a mixture of harmonic concepts and improvisation of jazz, compositional and rhythmic elements of progressive rock, emulsified with the help of a wide range of electronic music sounds. In order to develop this genre mix into a functioning, sophisticated sound concept in which elements such as odd metres, sequencing, metric modulation etc. form the basic building blocks of the compositions, the band had to work on the delicate balance between complex rhythms and harmonies - with success. Although the notation of many pieces resembles mathematical equations, Origina1Nerd succeeds in finding a highly musical solution for each composition. This was also recognised by the Ton Art Tirol jury, which awarded the band and its musical leader Max Glanz the Tyrolean Youth Jazz Prize 2022.
