Leveret
An underground folk artist.
British instrumental folk trio Leveret feature melodeonist Andy Cutting, concertina player Robert Harbron, and fiddler Sam Sweeney. Veteran players all, each boasts a lengthy list of instrumental credits with prominent English folk artists like Martin Simpson, Bellowhead, June Tabor, and the Full English. At one point, the three found themselves working together in singer Fay Hield's band the Hurricane Party, and came up with the idea of forming an instrumental trio that would pair reimagined traditional fare with new folk originals. After forming in 2014, they recorded their debut, New Anything, in just one day. Released in early 2015 on Rootbeat Records, the album was critically well-received and Leveret spent the year touring and developing material for their follow-up. Released in January 2016, In the Round was recorded live in an octagonal church in Derbyshire. Delivering their third album in as many years, the trio offered the entirely original set Inventions in September 2017. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
