Makar Novikov is one of the best known Russian jazz double bassists. An experienced accompanist and virtuoso soloist, he has performed with artists like Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath and James Spaulding. He is a graduate of the acknowledged Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music. After his move to Italy in 2022, he started to work extensively with Italian musicians like Rosario Giuliani or Maurizio Giammarco, and to teach jazz bass at the Siena Jazz University. Today, he regularly appears as a member of Alex Sipiagin’s and Antonio Faraò’s projects as well as with the Olivia Trummer Trio and the Isfar Sarabski Trio, touring worldwide. His upcoming release "Long Journey" features Olivia Trummer, Alex Sipiagin, Gianni Gagliardi and Donald Edwards, and is about to be released on Rainy Days Records in November 2025. Rooted in energetic grooves and original melodies, Makar’s music strives to bring people together, offering open-minded, danceable modern Jazz.
