Joe Webb
In October 2024, Webb released his debut album Hamstrings & Hurricanes on Edition Records, a project that has since been shortlisted for the 2025 Mercury Prize. Featuring Will Sach (bass) and Sam Jesson (drums), the album is conceived as a bold, continuous soundscape that fuses live trio improvisations with studio detail, colliding rags, ballads and blues into something closer to a mixtape than a straight jazz record. The closing track Hiraeth (“homesick” in Welsh) tips its hat directly to Oasis’ Shakermaker, underlining Webb’s deep ties to the sound and spirit of the ’90s. “That era was the starting point of my love of music,” Webb explains. “I loved the way it made me feel. I started to get that same feeling when listening to Duke Ellington, Franz Liszt, Billie Holiday, Oscar Peterson, Blur, Art Tatum… the list goes on. Joe Webb’s music carries both the weight of tradition and the energy of now. His story is one of boundary-breaking artistry rooted in a fierce pride of where he comes from – and where he’s headed next.
