A raw classical night.
Riccardo Chailly, Music Director of La Scala and the Lucerne Orchestra, returns to lead the Orchestre de Paris in a programme centered on the lovers of Verona. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet serves as the creative spark for a selection of works by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Bernstein. The evening features Tchaikovsky's emblematic symphonic poem, the first suite from Prokofiev's ballet, and the rhythmic Symphonic Dances from Bernstein's West Side Story. The programme is completed by Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, a contemporary of Prokofiev's work and a profound masterpiece of lamentation.
