Im Pariser Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord bringt der 86-jährige chinesische Komponist Wang Xilin Ausschnitte aus seinen berühmtesten Symphonien zur Aufführung. Der Regisseur Wang Bing filmt Xilins nackten Körper, der vom Alter, aber auch von jahrelanger Folter während der Kulturrevolution gezeichnet ist. Zwischen zwei Auftritten erzählt der seit 2005 im deutschen Exil lebende Dissident, was ihn zu den jeweiligen Stücken bewogen hat.
