A mean and nasty bit of filmmaking with real chops behind it. Incredible outsider art type weirdo performances throughout. Cursed mumblecore. I know a lot of people are tired of these stressed out American Safdian anxiety journeys but I’m a Jewish New Yorker so I probably never will be. We need one about a horrible woman, though. The Q&A sealed the deal seeing as Max is a true fuckin freak (positive). He clearly has a fondness for his wretched characters and his camera does have a loving gaze towards their maligned beauty. He also managed to make me laugh about the obnoxious drunk troglodyte in the second row that we all wanted to murder. The ending is so heightened and cruel. The contrarian part of my brain wanted to roll my eyes… but the edgelord in my thc addled frontal cortex won out and I laughed so hard. I might have a crush.Side note to Beyond Fest audience members: so there’s this amazing invention called deodorant…
