Violinist Maxim Vengerov joins the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Sir Antonio Pappano for a performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. The concerto is celebrated for its expansive orchestral introduction and beautiful central movement. The program continues with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 8, a powerful and harrowing work composed in 1943 during the Battle of Stalingrad that reflects on the horrors of war and human suffering. This performance will be recorded for future broadcast on Mezzo.
