The Revolt of the Double Bass

Part of the Contemporary Music Days festival curated by Ioannis Angelakis, this concert explores the double bass as a central protagonist rather than a mere accompaniment instrument. The programme features works by Oswald Amiralis, Sofia Gubaidulina, Kaija Saariaho, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Beat Furrer, alongside cinematic excerpts. Through its deep expressive power, the double bass is presented as a carrier of speech and reflection, moving from the shadows into the spotlight of musical thought. The performance creates a new sound body capable of delivering a distinct musical narrative where sound becomes a field of existential pursuit.
