Cellophonics: Wood on the Tracks
Ground-breaking cello quartet Cellophonics bring a dynamic and wide-ranging programme to Ronnie’s this July, drawing together specially commissioned contemporary works by Guy Barker and Rowland Sutherland alongside much earlier music. Showcasing the cello’s remarkable versatility, the ensemble performs with warmth and virtuosity, bringing to life the instrument’s contrasting characters through works ranging from Purcell to Wilhelm Fitzenhagen and York Bowen. At the heart of the programme is Guy Barker’s Wood On The Tracks, which lends its name to both the evening and the quartet’s forthcoming release on SOMM Records. The performance moves from operatic grandeur to the driving rhythms of jazz, featuring newly commissioned high-energy divertimentos and contemplative soliloquies.
